linguistic sort

The ordering of character strings based on locale requirements instead of the binary representation of the strings.

list command

A Recovery Manager (RMAN) command that allows the query of the RMAN repository to get the data regarding the BACKUP command and database incarnations.

listener.ora

The default name of Oracle's TNS listener configuration file. See also TNS listener.

locale

A collection of information about the linguistic and cultural preferences from a particular region.

locale definition files

Binary files that define NLS locale specifics relating to language, territory, character set, or linguistic sort. These files are used by the NLSRTL to implement globalization support. See also National Language Support Runtime Library.

local NLS operations

Client-side NLS operations that occur outside of a session to an Oracle server.

log file groups

Two or more log files, usually stored on different physical disks, that are written in parallel and are considered multiplexed for the purposes of database recovery Also known as redo log file groups.

logical corruption

See block corruption.

logical ROWID

A "guess" of the location of the row in an IOT, since there is no physical ROWID; the primary key identifies the rows in an IOT. A logical ROWID permits the creation of secondary indexes on the IOT.

long query warning alert

An alert generated when a user receives a Snapshot too old error. This alert is generated at most once per 24-hour period.

lsnrctl

An executable program used to manage listener functionality.
