Importing an existing HTML template

You might be fortunate enough to be able to create templates using an HTML editor. Or perhaps you work with a media company that creates HTML templates for you. Either way, it’s a snap to add those templates to your existing Swiftpage templates.

Getting ready

Once you or another person has created the HTML template you’ll need to have access to the .html file as well as all of the graphics included in the document unless the graphics are already hosted on your website.

How to do it...

  1. In ACT!, click Write, point to Sage E-marketing for ACT!, and then select E-mail Marketing to open the ACT! E-marketing dialog window.
  2. Click the Import Template button to open the Import Template folder of the Template Manager. The following screenshot shows you what it looks like:

  3. Click the Browse button to navigate to the .html file and then click Next.
  4. Click the Browse button to navigate to the referenced graphic and click Next to continue. The following figure shows you what this step of the template import wizard looks like:

  5. Click Match to accept the uploaded file.
  6. Repeat steps 3 through 5 to upload all the graphics to your imported template.
  7. Click Preview Template when you are prompted that all required graphics have been uploaded.
  8. Click Next to continue.
  9. Swiftpage will now add the required spam compliant footer; youll need to scroll to the very bottom of the template and click the Click here to Verify link.

How it works...

Your imported email will be automatically saved with an e_ and followed by the name of the original HTML document. Best of all you can edit the template using the Advanced Template Editor.

There’s more...

If the images contained in your original HTML are hosted by you on your own website you won’t need to go through the process of uploading all of the template graphics; you just need to make sure that the HTML content references the location of the graphics. Simply import the template, click the Preview button to insure the accuracy of the imported template, and then click the template verification link.

Because imported templates were originally created using an HTML editor, they can only be edited in the Advanced Template Editor which makes use of tables, frames, and text sockets.
