Sahla Aroussi, PhD, is a research associate in the Centre for Trust, Peace and Social Relations at Coventry University and is an honorary fellow of the Law and Development research group in the Faculty of Law, University of Antwerp. She has published on feminism and public relations, feminist politics and international human rights advocacy. In addition to editing and authoring academic publications she has also constructed two peace agreements databases and recently carried out consultancy work for the International Commission of Jurists, Geneva (2013). Her latest book Women, Peace and Security: Repositioning Gender in Peace Agreements (2015) has just been published in Intersentia’s Law and Cosmopolitan Values series.

Liam FitzPatrick is a consultant specialising in change communications and is based in London. His career includes time in house running IC teams in the UK and internationally as well as extended periods as a consultant working around the world. He teaches and lectures widely on employee communications and change and has written on the subject including Internal Communication: a manual for practitioners. He is a Fellow of the CIPR and Vice Chair of the IABC’s Global Communications Certification Council.

Michael Frohlich is CEO of Europe, Middle East and Africa for Ogilvy Public Relations. His responsibilities include the stewardship of growth and development of the region, while leading some of the region’s largest clients. Michael has been recognised by multiple industry awards for his clients and agency leadership, as well as regularly contributing to media articles and event platforms. He has over 20 years of experience in Brand Marketing and Corporate Communications. In 2014, Michael was appointed to the International Communications Consultancy Organisation (ICCO) Board of Management to represent the UK.

Anne Gregory, PhD, is Professor of Corporate Communication at the University of Hudersfield, UK. Originally a broadcast journalist with the BBC, Anne spent ten years in public relations practice, operating at senior levels in both consultancy and in-house. She was President of the UK Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR) in 2004, leading it to Chartered status, and is now a Board member of the Global Alliance. Anne initiated and edits the CIPR series of 17 books, is Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Communication Management and publishes regularly in books, academic and popular journals. She is a frequent speaker at international conferences. Anne is still very active in practice, with Centre clients from the Department of Health and Cabinet Office to Tesco and Nokia. She was awarded the Sir Stephen Tallents Medal for outstanding service to public relations in 2009.

David Hamilton is Director of Communications at The Scout Association, the UK’s biggest mixed youth organisation, with over half a million members in communities up and down the country. He is Chair of the CIPR Not-for-Profit Group. Previously David was Head of Public Relations and Engagement at the national children’s charity Action for Children and before that spent nearly ten years working in the public sector. David has won the prestigious CIPR and Institute of Directors PR Director of the Year Award. He is Vice-Chairman of the PRCA PR Council, a visiting lecturer at the University of Westminster and a Fellow of the CIPR.

Mairead McCoy, PhD, is lecturer in public relations and public affairs in the School of Communication at Ulster University. She has published in the areas of public relations, crisis communication and marketing. Recent projects include an FP7 funded, pan-European study of the communication strategies employed by public authorities in the aftermath of terrorist attacks. Her current interests include public sector communication, political lobbying, and social return on investment (SROI) in the context of public relations.

Loretta Milan, BA (Hons), MCIPR, has over 15 years’ experience in public relations, marketing and sales, working for top international and FTSE 100 companies such as Airbus and Severn Trent. She is now the director of her own consultancy, Milanese Creative, helping companies to maximise their success, as well as authors and subject experts around the world to monetise their experience, knowledge and skills.

Mark Phillimore, MBA, MCIPR, is a senior lecturer at the University of Greenwich Business School in London. He is programme leader for the MA Public Relations and also lectures on the BA Public Relations and Communications programme at the university. He has helped lead a successful three-year Erasmus intensive programme for students relating to ‘lobbying and government relations in the EU’ and involving seven universities across Europe. He has also developed links and joint programmes with France Business in Poitiers. Prior to lecturing he had his own PR consultancy specialising in the B2B technology and research sectors particularly working with US and Japanese clients involved in the EU market. He is a member of the CIPR, BAFTA, the IoD and the European Public Relations Education and Research Association.

Sarah Roberts-Bowman, MBA, MCIPR, MCIM, runs the MA in Public Relations at the London College of Communication, University of the Arts, London, and is undertaking a PhD in public affairs and competencies. Prior to entering academia, Sarah had 20 years’ experience in PR practice holding senior roles in the public, private and not-for-profit sectors and has worked regionally, nationally and at a pan-European level. Current research interests include competencies, strengths and personal agency; organisational communications and the role of arts as a facilitator; innovation, entrepreneurship and communication as integrative practice.

Ian Somerville, PhD, is a reader in media and communication in the Department of Media and Communication at the University of Leicester. His recent research has been published in a range of international journals in public relations, communication, public administration and sociology and in various edited collections. Current research interests include public relations in conflict and post-conflict societies, government public relations, public relations/lobbying in human rights activism and sports communication and social exclusion. He is a member of the editorial boards of Public Relations Review and Public Relations Inquiry. In 2012 he was elected Vice-Chair of the ‘Organisational and Strategic Communication’ Section of the European Communication Research and Education Association.

Simon Wakeman is Agency Director at leading digital agency Deeson. With more than 17 years’ communications and marketing experience, he has provided consultancy and training to a wide range of central and local government agencies both in the UK and internationally. His private sector experience included retail product management, marketing online financial products and services, digital and interactive TV services, as well as consulting at a senior level to global brands such as Vodafone and BP. Simon holds professional qualifications from CIPR, CIM and APMG. He is a CIM Chartered Marketer, CIPR Accredited Practitioner and RSA Fellow.

Peter L Walker, FCAM, FIPR, FNIPR, is Senior Consultant – PIELLE Consulting Ltd. He is a Chartered Public Relations Practitioner and a Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations. He is one of the UK’s leading international public relations practitioners, an expert in corporate responsibility and governance and a leading authority on the international promotion of economic development. A freeman of the City of London he is a member of the Guild of Public Relations Practitioners and a trustee of its Charity Fund. Peter lectures and writes extensively on public relations and communication management nationally and internationally. He is an advisor to and a member of the World Council for Corporate Governance and an international jurist for the Golden Peacock Awards for Corporate Governance and Corporate Social Responsibility.

Emma Wood is senior lecturer in public relations at Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh and a co-ordinator of QMU’s Centre for Dialogue. Her research and communications practice focuses on the use of dialogue in communications, particularly in relation to helping young people navigate situations involving alcohol safely www.qmu.ac.uk/mcpa/cdial/AlcoLols.htm. She publishes on corporate identity and corporate communication and is a reviewer for, and former editor of, The Journal of Communication Management. She has a background in communication in both the financial and business sectors. She is course leader of the CIPR’s post-graduate diploma in Scotland and a Fellow of the CIPR. Emma is a former external examiner at Leeds Metropolitan University.

Heather Yaxley, FCIPR, is a hybrid academic–educator–consultant–practitioner who takes a rhizomatic approach to her thinking, and writing, about public relations. She reflects this interconnected, diverse, knotworked approach in her career, which over 25 years has encompassed the three main areas of employment in PR: working in-house, within consultancies and as an independent practitioner. Heather is a director of the Motor Industry Public Affairs Association, having a background in the automotive industry. She is an associate lecturer at Bournemouth University and London College of Communications, and has delivered online courses for Kent State University. She is a course director with PR Academy leading on its digital communications certificate and the CIPR public affairs diploma as well as teaching the diploma and advanced certificate. Her consultancy clients have ranged from Jaguar LandRover to Lions Clubs International. By the time this book is published, Heather hopes to have completed her PhD on career strategies in public relations, enabling her to refocus on her existing social media activities including the Greenbanana and PR Conversations blogs, and start some new adventures.

Philip Young is a senior lecturer and researcher in public relations at Birmingham City University. He was previously project leader for NEMO: New Media, Modern Democracy at Lund University, Sweden, and a senior lecturer at the University of Sunderland. He is editor with Tim Coombs, Jesper Falkheimer and Mats Heide of Strategic Communication, Social Media and Democracy: The challenge of the digital naturals, and co-author with David Phillips of Online Public Relations, 2nd edn.
