The Storage Policy-Based Management (SPBM) helps a vSphere administrator to create VM storage policies to enable the selection of datastores based on their storage characteristics, which are either user-defined or learned using a VASA provider.
If you have a VASA-capable array, then you can add a VASA provider to vCenter Server so that it can generate array capabilities for each LUN or datastore. A capability generated by the provider is called a system storage capability.
Refer to the storage vendor's documentation for instructions on how to configure vCenter to connect with the VASA provider.
Since configuring a VASA provider is beyond the scope of this book, we will concentrate on defining storage capabilities using vCenter tags.
