CONCLUSIONS

Many competency frameworks exist that can be used as the source of competencies for an organisation to use when carrying out competency assessments. In order to understand these frameworks, decide on the competencies that are relevant to an organisation and help to ensure repeatable and measurable competency assessments, as a defined approach to the understanding of candidate framework and the set-up and carrying out of assessments is needed.

Unfortunately most, if not all, competency frameworks neglect this aspect of competency assessment. The UCAM, a model and process-based approach to competency assessments is one possible solution. This chapter has described the set of four core processes that make up the UCAM and are aimed at addressing these aspects. Additional non-core support processes have also been discussed. These support process are typically executed before or after the core UCAM processes in order to help with, for example, the set-up or analysis of assessments.
