Chapter 18. Solaris Management Console

The Solaris Management Console (SMC) is a collection of GUI tools to make administering your servers easier. Based on Java technology, SMC enables you to manage administrative and network services on your servers from a remote location. For example, using SMC, the administrator can manage system processes, schedule and manage jobs, and manage disk partitions both locally and on remote systems. One of the main advantages of SMC is the concept of role-based access control (RBAC), which enables administrators to delegate specific administrative rights to users within a secure system. This makes it possible to create special user accounts called roles that can be assigned to users, typically “power users” who are permitted to make specific system changes.
