HERO'S JOURNEY WHEEL FOR MAMMA SÖRMAN-NILSSON

Meeting with the mentor

This is a ‘fork in the road' moment. The heroine needs guidance if she is going to undertake the odyssey potentially ahead of her, and the mentor is a figure who gives the heroine something she really needs. This could be an object of great importance, a critical insight or foresight to overcome a dilemma the heroine is facing, sage advice, some practical training or even self-esteem. Whatever it is that the mentor provides to the heroine, it helps dispel doubts and uncertainties, and enables the heroine to move forward with the odyssey.

Here's what happened during this stage for Luke in Star Wars:

Inner journey: Meeting with the mentor — R2D2 plays the entire message, revealing that Luke holds the plans of the Death Star. Obi-Wan gives Luke his father's lightsaber and tells him of his heritage.
Outer journey: Overcoming reluctance — Luke wants to help.

And here's what happened for Birgitta:

Inner journey: Meeting with the mentor — Anders moves back to Sweden to collaborate with his mother and father on the cross-generational renaissance of Georg Sörman.
Outer journey: Overcoming reluctance — Birgitta wants to collaborate on the revitalisation of Georg Sörman, and starts seeing the value in the ‘reverse mentoring' with Anders.
