Be Memorable—People Can Be Aware of Only a Few Things at a Time

YOU ARE NOT the first thing on people’s minds. No offense, it’s just that everyone has a lot on their minds each day.

Think about the last couple business contacts you made but have not regularly heard from. Were they on your mind today? If not, it is because you are human and have many other things on your mind. The same holds true for your business contacts. This is why follow-up is so important—so people don’t forget about you. In this chapter, I’ll give you a quick primer on how memory works and what is and what isn’t memorable. In the other chapters in this section, we’ll discuss specific ways to keep in touch with people and jog their memory.
