About the Authors

Marcus Goncalves, EdD is an international management consultant with more than 25 years of experience in the United States, Latin America, Europe, Middle East, and Asia. Mr. Goncalves is the former CTO of Virtual Access Networks, which under his leadership was awarded the Best Enterprise Product at Comdex Fall 2001, leading to the acquisition of the company by Symantec. He holds a master’s degree in Computer Information Systems and a doctorate in Educational Leadership from Boston University. He has more than 45 books published in the United States, many translated into Portuguese, German, Chinese, Korean, Japanese, and Spanish. He’s often invited to speak on international business, global trade, international management, and organizational development subjects worldwide. Marcus has been lecturing at Boston University and Brandeis University for the past 11 years. He has also been a visiting professor and graduate research adviser/examiner at Saint Joseph University, in Macao, China for the past three years. José Alves, PhD is an Associate Professor of Management at the Faculty of Business, Government, and Social Work of the University of Saint Joseph, Macau. He holds a PhD in Business Administration from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. He currently is based in Macau, China, but has lived in Europe and the United States. His major research interests include leadership and management in international contexts, namely in Asia and China. His research has been published in journals and conference proceedings, such as the Journal of Managerial Psychology, Human Resources Management Review, and International Journal of Leadership Studies. He has also presented at various conferences, including the Academy of Management, Iberoamerican Academy of Management, International Association for Chinese Management Research, and Academy of Human Resource Development. Ambassador Carlos Frota, PhD is a Portuguese career diplomat who retired recently from the Portuguese diplomatic career, after 33 years of uninterrupted service in consulates and embassies in Europe, Africa, and Asia. He served as Consul-General in Bordeaux (France) and as the first Consul-General of Portugal to Macau SAR after the handover of Macau by Portugal to China in 1999. In 2002, Dr Carlos Frota was appointed ambassador to Seoul. In 2004 he presented credentials in Pyongyang as ambassador nonresident. After three years in Lisbon as Deputy Director General for Political Affairs, he moved to Jakarta where he represented his country in Indonesia, in ASEAN as permanent representative and in the Philippines and Brunei as ambassador nonresident. Ambassador Frota traveled extensively in Southeast Asia when he was accredited to ASEAN, following closely the social and economic developments of the 10 member states. He now teaches International Relations as senior lecturer and research fellow at the University of Saint Joseph in Macau, China. He also writes a daily column in a Macau newspaper— Jornal Tribuna de Macau— on international issues. Harry Xia, DBA is an Assistant Professor of Finance at the Faculty of Business, Government & Social Work of the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) in Macau, China. He had held key management positions in finance and marketing for multinational corporations in the United States and Asia Pacific for almost 20 years before joining USJ, and still serves as an active business consultant and advisor to companies in China and its surrounding areas. His major research interests include corporate finance, international business, and corporate governance. His research has been published in journals and conference proceedings, such as the International Review of Business Research Papers, and presented in the Asian Business Research Conference and Academy of International Business Annual Meeting. He holds a Doctor of Business Administration from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and a Master of Hospitality Management from the University of Houston in Texas.

Rajabahadur V. Arcot, MSc Physics is an Independent Industry Analyst/Columnist and Business Consultant with around 40 years of senior managerial experience. He has held C-level executive positions in leading companies, such as Honeywell, Thermax, Bells Controls an affiliate of Foxboro/Invensys, Electronics Corporation of India Limited, and Instrumentation Limited. Until recently, he was responsible for ARC Advisory Group’s business operations in India. He has authored and reviewed numerous market research and industry trend reports, white papers, and case studies, widely traveled, transacted business with numerous leading Indian and Fortune 500 transnational companies. He has been a regular contributor to Industry and Industry Association Publications and speaker at numerous conferences and events in India and abroad. Presently, as an Independent Industry Analyst/Columnist and Business Consultant, he focuses on providing consultancy services and writes reports, articles, case studies, and white papers on critical infrastructure industry control systems cyber security, sustainable manufacturing, Industry 4.0 trends, renewable energy and distributed generation, and professional and skill competency development.
