U-Boot is licensed under the GPLv2, but any program launched by it does not inherit its license. So you are free to use U-Boot to launch a proprietary operating system, for example. However, your final product must comply with the GPLv2 with regard to U-Boot, so U-Boot source code and modifications must be provided.
