Video acceleration for Chromium is made possible with the patches available at https://github.com/Freescale/chromium-imx. Video acceleration works over X11 and Wayland, although reports on usability vary. However, Qt5 WebEngine video acceleration is only commercially available.

These patches are already applied by the meta-freescale layer. At the time of writing, the patches apply only to a specific version of Chromium and they would need to be reviewed for newer versions.

In order to be able to build Chromium on the Yocto 2.4 release, the bbappends that applies these patches need to be omitted by adding the following to your conf/local.conf:

BBMASK .= "dynamic-layers/browser-layer/recipes-browser" 

The preceding line instructs Bitbake to ignore the recipes and bbappends on the specified path.
