- 26. Exploring the New Look of Access 2007
Microsoft has improved the proofing tools across the 2007 Microsoft Office system. One item worth reviewing for PowerPoint 2007 is the contextual spelling option. If you have ever made a mistake such as "I will go their" and caught it only in front of an audience, then this will be a useful tool for you.
Basic typos are forgivable in most settings; misuse of grammar isn’t. Contextual spelling helps find and fix this kind of error, letting you know the sentence should use "there" instead of "their." Because the Microsoft Office system clears the contextual spelling check box after installation if your system has less than 1 gigabyte (GB) of random access memory (RAM) available, you’ll want to verify this feature works on your system. Figure 17-4 shows an example of the menu you see when you are proofing a presentation.

Slow Performance and Contextual Spelling
Using the contextual spelling option on systems with low memory can cause performance problems, specifically slow performance. If you notice your system not performing as quickly as usual, clear the Use Contextual Spelling check box in the PowerPoint Options dialog box, and see whether improvement occurs. If it does, consider adding memory so you can continue to use the spelling tool while keeping high performance.
To add contextual spelling and alerts to PowerPoint 2007, follow these steps:
Click the Microsoft Office Button, and then click PowerPoint Options.
Select the Proofing category.
Under When Correcting Spelling In PowerPoint, select the Use Contextual Spelling check box.
Be sure the Check Spelling As You Type check box is selected. If it isn’t, the wavy red line that alerts you to a potential spelling error will not appear.
Click OK.
This chapter gave you an overview of how you can use and manipulate text within PowerPoint 2007 presentations for maximum audience impact. Several new options are available to you, such as SmartArt text conversions, which can give your slide show some flair. Customized theme fonts make it easy to personalize presentations according to your own style, and new or improved formatting and spelling tools help you save time and produce professional results. You can even write on slides easily and quickly in PowerPoint 2007.
