William Kass uses a layered approach in the app “SketchBook Mobile” to create a image that is both tactile and deep.

I do not have any procedure defined. First I think of something interesting to draw, more or less define the colors that I use and start drawing.

Within “SketchBook Mobile”, I start by creating a few layers to set up the foreground and background of the drawing. I imagine the size and angle of the cup and start the first sketches.

Then I start to draw and paint the milkshake.

Now I start to build up the background and prepare the place where I am going to place the strawberry. I use separate layers to paint on.

In the fourth stage of design, I paint the whole body of the strawberry, already in some detail. I used the airbrush and a pencil to create the strawberry.

In the last stage I finish the straw and the final details of the strawberry. Now, the design is done in “Sketch-Book Mobile”, but this is not yet the final artwork. After saving the image to the camera roll, I use two other apps to complete the design. The first is “Effect Touch” to improve contrast and lighting design and the second is “FX Photo Studio” to create the water drops effect. The effect of drops in “Photo Studio” serves very well for this job, but you can achieve this effect in “SketchBook” too, using different tools. That’s it, the design is finished.
