Sign up for AdMob and Register Your App

The first step in working with Google AdMob is to set up an AdMob account and register an app. To create an AdMob account, you’ll need a Google account and an AdSense or Google Ads account.

To get started, visit the Google AdMob Get Started page.[58] Scroll down until you see the Create an AdMob account link, click that link, and you’ll see a page similar to this:

Select the option that works best for you—for example, I don’t have an AdSense or Google Ads account. I need both.—and follow the on-screen instructions until you reach the end. Once you’re done, you’ll see something like this:

The next step is to create your app. For this exercise, you’ll use Gloop Drop, the first game you built in this book.

From the AdMob Home page, navigate to the All Apps page. If this is your first app, which it likely is, you’ll see a page similar to this:

Click the ADD YOUR FIRST APP button, and follow the on-screen instructions to add your first app. You’ll need to select the app’s status—published or non-published—and enter the app’s information, such as its name (Gloop Drop) and platform (iOS), and whether or not to enable metrics. With metrics enabled, you’ll have access to additional tools and data that may help you nail down your monetization strategy.

When you’re done, you’ll see something similar to this message:

With your first AdMob app added, you’re ready to create some ad units. An ad unit specifies the details of the ads your game will display, such as the format and type.
