Monetizing Your Games with In-App Purchases

In the previous chapter, you added banner and rewarded ads to the gloopdrop project. With ads, your games have the potential to earn a little extra revenue. But ads are not the only way to earn some extra cash. Another popular option is to sell additional in-game content through, what Apple calls, in-app purchases.

This additional content can be anything from extra lives and power-ups to new levels and bonus material. You can even sell virtual currency like coins and gems. Regardless of what you’re selling, in-app purchases and virtual goods are a great way to further monetize your games.

There’s a lot involved when it comes to setting up and designing a game that supports in-app purchases—too much to cover in a single chapter. However, the information you’ll learn in this chapter will help get you started when it’s time to develop your own games.

To get started, the first step is to prepare the Xcode project and target for the In-App Purchase capability.
