Replatform is similar to rehost. However, in the migration process, there are changes to the workload architecture to take advantage of the cloud native vendor services, for example, moving the application exactly as is, but changing the database from self-managed instances to a vendor-managed database platform. While this change seems minor, it introduces a change to the workload architecture and must be managed as a mini-refactor with testing and documentation. Replatforming is also a pattern that can be done at the time of migration from on-premises to the cloud, or once the application is already in the cloud, as seen in the following diagram:
