In This Chapter
• Introducing LinkedIn recommendations
• Recommendations as testimonials and referrals
• How to ask for and write recommendations
• Showing off your recommendations
LinkedIn offers a unique feature that can help you land a job, get new customers, and more. It’s called LinkedIn Recommendations, and is one of the most important but frequently overlooked parts of your LinkedIn profile and your overall business, brand, or career story. When someone recommends your work, that recommendation adds credibility to your LinkedIn profile. It’s important to understand that profile recommendations are different from the Company Page product and service recommendations discussed in Chapter 4.
Offline, customer testimonials and recommendations from previous employers can help you build your business or get a job, and they can do the same on LinkedIn. Research shows that most employers view an applicant’s social website profile (including their LinkedIn profile) before hiring that person. Companies and customers do the same thing when they’re looking for businesses to work with. Getting recommendations on your LinkedIn profile can make the difference between reaching your goals and falling short. This chapter teaches you how to get, give, and use recommendations.
