Q&A

Q. I want to use the Content Organizer to route my documents to different content libraries, but I don’t want to create a separate Records Center site for this. Can I use the Content Organizer routing features from within my site?

A. Yes, you can activate the Content Organizer feature in your site for this to work. This causes a new library called the Drop Off Library to be created where you can upload your documents and configure Content Organizer rules to move them to proper locations.

Q. Holds and eDiscovery doesn’t work for me. None of my documents or records were put on hold. Am I missing something?

A. The most common reason for this is that search might not be working for you. While configuring Holds and eDiscovery, verify that the preview results button returns the expected search results. Also, any recently uploaded documents may not appear in search results, and you might need to run a crawl from Central Administration for this to work.

Q. Okay, I understand the new web content management features in SharePoint 2010. But I am still worried about browser compatibility issues. Are there any improvements on that front?

A. The new fancy web content management features wouldn’t be of much use if they were restricted to only one version of Internet Explorer. You’ll be glad to know that there is now support for more web browsers, including Internet Explorer 7 and 8 as well and the latest versions of Firefox and Safari. This should resolve most of your concerns on browser compatibility.
