Work Groups Meet Differently than Teams

How does your group work? If you have interdependencies between people, you will need some form of checking on deliverables and recommitting to work. You might not need a daily standup. In fact, you might need a problem-solving meeting.

If you all work on similar kinds of work, as a customer-support group would, consider some form of retrospective to see how to improve your work.

You might need some form of planning if you make choices other than first-in/first-out work. For example, in more traditional customer-support organizations, managers might do the triage of tickets. In an agile customer-support group, the team might do the triage on some cadence—say, every morning. The team would decide what to do when. You might need some planning approach that integrates team triage with management triage of tickets.

Consider which kind of meeting you need and how often. Especially, decide how often you would like to retrospect. Retrospectives provide valuable data for improvement. (See Retrospectives Provide Valuable Data.)
