Plugins

In Chapter 4, you learned about LinkedIn plugins that help you promote your Company Page. In this chapter, you learn about LinkedIn plugins available through the LinkedIn Developer Community that help you indirectly promote your LinkedIn profile. To view the available LinkedIn plugins, log in to your LinkedIn account and visit: developer.linkedin.com/plugins.

The following plugins are recommended to quickly and easily give your LinkedIn profile, your website, and your blog more exposure.

Share on LinkedIn: Add a Share on LinkedIn button to your website or blog. This plugin allows visitors to share the link to that content with their LinkedIn networks with a click of the mouse. A share count can be included to show off how popular your content is! You can choose to embed the plugin in the three formats shown in Figure 10.8.

Member Profile: Show off your LinkedIn profile on your website or blog with the Member Profile plugin. When this plugin is embedded in your website or blog, visitors can see your profile summary and common connections (if they’re logged in to LinkedIn). The amount of information visible depends on the format of the plugin that you choose to use.

When it comes to building your personal or business brand and your career using LinkedIn, you can’t operate in a silo. Instead, you need to spread your wings and find ways to surround people with your experience, content, knowledge, and expertise. Making it easy to find you through your varied online profiles, websites, and blogs by displaying your LinkedIn Member profile is one way to do it. At the same time, make it easy for people to share your blog and website with the Share on LinkedIn plugin so people can learn more about you, see more of your work, and deepen their relationships with you.

If you only hang out in your own home and never leave, you’ll only make so many friends. You have to put yourself out there, but always lead people back to your home base (in this case, your LinkedIn profile) where the bulk of your connections, conversations, and content live.
