Multi-phase commit

One way to drive consensus is that a proposing Process sends the proposed value to every other process and essentially forces it to either accept or reject the proposal. The proposing process assumes that consensus is reached if it gets acceptance from all of all the processes.

There are two main versions of the distributed commit:

  • Two-phase commit
  • Three-phase commit
