Sometimes it is essential to avoid sending duplicate messages, such as emails—you don't want to spam your customer. To enable this, the delivery semantics can be at-most-once. Not having acknowledgement is one way of enabling at-most-once delivery. However, since most messaging systems have acknowledgement, another way to achieve this is to acknowledge the message starting to process it, as shown in the following diagram:
