Company, Employee, and Group Research

Don’t feel like your job search on LinkedIn is restricted to searches through the Jobs Directory and jobs search tool. You can also find jobs through Company Pages, employee profiles, and group career discussions and jobs sections.

Companies that post job openings on LinkedIn can display those jobs on their LinkedIn Company Page. See Figure 14.4 for an example.

When companies post new jobs, those job announcements are also published as an activity update, so it’s a good idea to follow the Company Page for companies that you want to target in your job search. Following Company Pages is discussed in detail in Chapter 13.

Figure 14.4: Company Pages can include a Careers tab with job postings.

It’s also common to come across job openings through employee’s personal profile updates on LinkedIn. For example, an employee might publish a job posting for her company and post it as an update in her personal profile activity stream. Employees also might discuss open jobs casually in their LinkedIn updates. If you’re targeting specific companies in your job search, look for current employees that you can connect with and keep an eye on their updates. You never know what you might see!

Groups offer another great way to find job openings. Join groups related to the type of work you want to do or industries and companies you want to work with. Some group administrators set up a Jobs section where members can share jobs posted in LinkedIn jobs.

Group administrators can also add a Career Discussions section to their groups where members can post and discuss job opportunities they hear about outside of LinkedIn jobs. These discussions are always timely because they are automatically removed after 14 days.
