How to Eat a Banana Like a Monkey
Chow down on “nature’s fast food” like our simian siblings By Ed Lewis
The actual eating isn’t too different from us humans. The real magic is in how monkeys peel their bananas to get at the goodness inside. Odds are, you peel your banana the way you’ve been taught and never thought much about it. So let’s look at how the experts do it.
Get a banana I like mine to have more brown on the outside, others insist on a little green. Hey, it’s your banana, I’m just here to tell you how to peel it.
Find the top Bananas grow in bunches pointing up with stems on the bottom. The other side is really the top.
Pinch the top Give a firm pinch on the top to break it. You might get some smooshed banana on your fingers, but with practice, you’ll do it cleanly.
Peel your banana You pinched it and got a good grip on some part of the peel. Now pull!
Repeat Peel down two or three more times and you’ll have a beautiful banana to behold and eat.
Eat it! This banana was a big one. It was ripe and delicious.
The beauty of it all With the stem still intact, you have a natural handle. There’s no fumbling or trying to get the last bit out, it just happens, the way nature intended.
Dispose Toss the peel in the compost and get on with your day, a little happier knowing that you just ate a banana like a pro!
