Screen 2

  1. The user is presented with the search results screen as seen in the following screenshot:

At this point, the facilitator is most interested to know if the participant noticed the refinement options presented on the left pane of the "search results" screen.

If the user starts interacting with various items in the search results and ignores the list, the facilitator notes that. At this point, the facilitator has several options:

  1. Let the user continue. It is possible that the user will find the tablet without ever looking at the refinement option. End the test without mentioning to the participant the existence of the filters.
  2. Similar to option 1--let the user continue, with the possibility that the user will find the tablet without ever looking at the refinement option. However, at that point, direct the participant's attention to the refinement pane, and ask if the user noticed it, and if the user did, their reason for not taking advantage of the feature.

  1. If the user appears to be ignoring the refinement options, stop the test and direct the person's attention to it, have a conversation about it, and discuss the refinement options as shown in the following screenshot:

At this point, observe the participant's use of filters. Typically, the user is asked to think aloud, and so, it is possible to capture their thoughts about the various filters.
