Upgrading an Existing Extranet Solution from SharePoint 2007
When an existing SharePoint 2007 extranet web application is upgraded, it will initially use classic mode authentication. To upgrade it to claims-based authentication, perform the following steps:
Verify that the upgraded web application works as is in classic mode authentication.
Open a SharePoint 2010 Management PowerShell console.
Use the following command to convert the web application to use claims-based authentication:

Converting the web application to claims-based authentication cannot be reversed. Make sure that the web application is ready to be converted.
After converting the web application, follow the steps listed in the “Configuring Authentication Providers” section, earlier in this chapter. Some of the steps include updating and verifying all the web.config files. Verify the web application configuration and test the site directly.
