The Governance Cycle

In the United States, Congress and the Supreme Court are constantly changing laws and passing bills in an attempt to improve the country. The government is constantly striving to improve how they govern our country. The best governance plan is one that changes and adjusts itself to the growing needs and pains. Figure 24.8 shows the cyclical nature of governance and suggests that each “component” of the plan should be regularly reviewed. A component might be taxonomy governance, for example, or site management, or service applications governance.

Developing a mechanism to solicit user feedback and make refinements to the plan is a great way to proactively manage the application. Developing a governing board that includes application/system administrators and end users is a good way to discuss issues, requests, and build out new templates or expand features.

To be able to really take advantage of a governing board, an agenda needs to get built, and materials should be brought together. A good starting point for these meetings is a review of the usage trends, user feedback, and any issues that have arisen since the last meeting. Consider using a meeting workspace to capture agendas as well as tasks or takeaways.
