Text and pictures are cool, but the next big thing in Facebook is video. In fact, it’s less about Facebook and more a reflection of our craving for more videos online. We can thank faster internet connections and the success of YouTube for that.

Pictures are still the main way marketers are communicating on Facebook, so anything you can do with video will be both original and memorable.

So why doesn’t everyone do video? Here are some reasons:

A well-done video can be exponentially more expensive than a well-done photo.

Businesses can be intimidated by the prospect of recording video.

Text or even pictures are faster and easier to create than video.

A low-end video may actually fit your style. If you’re promoting a hipster bar in New York, for example, you really don’t want an overly polished product. Use your audience’s expectations to set your budget and goals.

In other words, creating a video is quite an endeavor. The rewards are just as great as the risks, though.
