Mobile Apps

As we mentioned earlier, apps are usually associated with mobile devices like iPhones. Your main aim may be to get your app on Facebook, but you should also consider formatting your app so it works well on the phone. In fact, some apps are made specifically for Facebook Mobile. We talk more about Facebook Mobile in Chapter 18.

Here are some of the many ways your app could benefit from being on the phone:

Locate the nearest store location using GPS.

Take a photo of someone using your product and automatically post it on Facebook.

Mention the Facebook user when she visits your store.

According to Facebook, more than 350 million active users access the site via phone, meaning that one out of every three Facebook users access it through his or her mobile device. You should definitely consider making your app phone-friendly.

Keep in mind that mobile goes beyond phones, too. The advent of the genre-defining iPad tablet in 2010 means that even more people will be accessing Facebook away from their home computer. Apps take a while to develop, so prep your concepts within where things will be six to nine months from now. And chances are that tablets and smartphones will become even more ubiquitous.
