Walk through the example in this chapter and practice mapping Person to Author. If you are feeling adventurous, add more advanced transformation logic to the mapping.
Key Points · The Data Lineage feature of ER/Studio enables you to document the movement of data from point A to point B (and any intermediate steps in between). Points A and B can be anything from flat files, data models, databases such as Access, Teradata, Oracle, and DB2, XML, databases, and Excel worksheets. · There are three main components required to document lineage: sources, rules, and data flows. · Sources are the starting points for the lineage, and may be either other ER/Studio data models, a SQL file, or a database. · Rules are the types of changes (also known as “transformations”) that can be applied to the source structures prior to loading the target structures. · The data flow is one complete mapping, which includes specific sources, rules, and targets. · Targets are the structures on our current model that we are loading. |
