A CDM shows the key concepts in a particular area and how these concepts interact with each other. This chapter defines a concept, followed by an explanation of the importance of the conceptual data model and concept definitions. Then both relational and dimensional CDMs will be discussed. Then we provide a summary of the ten-step approach to building a conceptual data model. We conclude this chapter with a description of the support provided by ER/Studio for CDMs, and a couple of exercises to reinforce what you’ve learned.
