With remote mail, you can download message headers without downloading the message body or attachments, which allows you to review messages without downloading them. This is particularly useful if you have a message with a very large attachment waiting for download and you have a slow connection to the server. Being able to preview messages through remote mail and optionally delete messages without downloading them is also useful when you have a corrupted message in your message store that is preventing you from downloading your messages normally.

The following list explains the options on the Remote Mail tab:

  • Process Marked Items. When using remote mail, retrieve all items you have marked for download.

  • Retrieve Items That Meet The Following Conditions. When using remote mail, retrieve only items that meet the conditions defined by the specified filter (see the following item).

  • Filter. Click to open the Filter dialog box, in which you specify conditions the message must meet for Outlook 2007 to download it from the server.

Note

For detailed information about remote mail with non–Exchange Server accounts, see Chapter 15. See Chapter 43, for details on using remote mail with Exchange Server accounts.
