Appendix B. About the Authors

Jim Boyce has been a freelance author and consultant for almost 20 years, and has authored and co-authored over 50 books on computer operating systems, hardware, and applications. Jim has written about a wide range of technology topics such as Windows and UNIX operating systems, Microsoft Office applications, PC upgrade and maintenance, and Visual Basic programming. Jim is a former Contributing Editor for WINDOWS Magazine and a frequent contributor to Microsoft.com, techrepublic.com, The Office Letter (www.officeletter.com), and other print and online publications. In past lives, Jim has been a draftsman, college instructor, ISP owner/operator, and consultant. Jim is now a Sr. Practice and Process Manager for Affiliated Computer Services (ACS) and operations manager for one of ACS’ IT support facilities.

Beth Sheresh (CNE) is a seasoned technical writer with more than 15 years of computer industry experience including writing and editing technical books, network administration and consulting, and technical training design, development, and delivery. Her writing projects have covered directory services and other networking technologies including IT provisioning, security, and Windows. Beth’s books include Understanding Directory Services (two editions) and the Microsoft Windows NT Server Administrators Bible—Option Pack Edition as well as chapters of Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Inside Out. She recently directed the design and development of operations manuals and administrative training materials for the initial Active Directory implementation of a Fortune 500 company.

Doug Sheresh (MCSE) is an IT professional with over two decades of experience that encompasses network administration, consulting, technical support management, and managing technical writing projects. His expertise includes all aspects of technical training course development, from design and content creation to training delivery. Earlier, while at Microsoft, he was instrumental in the design and development of Microsoft’s technical training for Windows 95, Windows 3.1, and MS-DOS, and was the lead technical writer of the Microsoft Windows 95 Resource Kit. He was also the project manager and coauthor of Understanding Directory Services, 2nd Edition and Microsoft Windows NT Server Administrators Bible—Option Pack Edition. His technical training projects for Fortune 500 companies include the design and development of the MOF Operations Assessment training, as well as Active Directory and SMS administration training. Recent writing includes technical materials on IT regulatory compliance, automated IT provisioning, contributing to a Windows Server 2003 book, and developing Windows Server 2003 administration operations manuals.
