HOT TIP
If you find ugly
artifacts remain
after moving or
extending, or if
the joins aren’t as
seamless as you’d
like, then Undo
the operation
and repeat it, this
time moving the
selection to a
slightly different
location. Often,
the difference of
just a pixel or two
can be enough to
produce markedly
better results.
2
Position the cursor within the selected area, and drag the
sheep to the left. You’ll see a copy of the sheep moving,
until you release the mouse button or lift the pen from the
tablet: so far, it’s the equivalent of moving the sheep with the
O A key held down.
3
When you release the mouse button, the original sheep
will disappear, replaced by texture sampled from the
surrounding area. In addition, the new, moved sheep will be
blended into the background. This is surely the easiest way to
move objects around in Photoshop.
8
Sometimes some errors will remain. In the previous step
we saw that although most of the middle leg had been
removed, a vestige of it remained. It’s easy to remove it using
the same tool, set to Move mode.
9
We can remove the obviously duplicated parts of the
sheep’s back, as well as the fake-looking join underneath,
by using the tool set to Move mode and selecting and
dragging other pieces of the sheep into place.
5
So far, we’ve been using the tool
in Move mode. Choose Extend
instead from the pop-up Mode menu
to change the method, and select half the front sheep.
6
Drag the half-sheep to the right, and position it so that it
more or less lines up with the original. (You don’t need to
be too precise about this, as we’ll see on the following spread.)
As before, you’ll simply be moving a copy.
