454 Creating a Blog and Podcast
NOTE
This lesson assumes you’ve completed Lesson 15. You’ll build
upon the skills learned earlier. If you haven’t done Lesson 15, please
complete it before proceeding with the exercises in this lesson.
Making the Homepage
As with any website, you’ll want to add a homepage to this site to welcome
visitors. The homepage offers up a quick overview of the website’s content
and mission. Let’s create a custom look for this site that helps express what
the MommyCast show is all about.
To get started, lets create a new site.
1 If it’s not running already, launch iWeb.
2 Choose File > New Site.
The Theme chooser opens and prompts you to choose a theme.
3 For this site, choose the Modern theme.
4 Next, select the Welcome template and click Choose.
5 In the sidebar, name the site MommyCast.
6 Choose File > Save to capture your work so far.
Modifying the Browser Background
Each page you design in iWeb has a specific width (which by default is 700
pixels). This ensures that the page can be viewed on different-sized displays.
When a visitor views your website from a browser window that is bigger than

the size of your webpage, some of the browser background—the area bigger
than the webpage—shows. With iWeb, you can set this to be a color, a gradi-
ent, or even an image.
NOTE
You have to set the browser background for each page of your
website individually. Be sure to pay attention to these steps, as you’ll need
to repeat them later in this lesson.
1 Select the Welcome page, and rename the page Home.
2 Click the Inspector button, and then click Page. Click Layout.
3 Click the Browser Background pop-up menu and choose Image Fill.
4 In the window that opens, browse to Lesson 16 > Web Page Graphics and
select the file
pink_bg.jpg. Click Open.
The image fills the browser background area of the webpage.
5 Choose File > Save to capture your work so far.
