Sharing to YouTube 207
NOTE
When your files have been published to iTunes, the files can be
found in the Movies section of your iTunes library.
Once your project has been shared, iMovie lets you know at a glance
where your movie is, and in which sizes you’ve rendered it.
Movie sizes (white squares are already saved)
The four bars represent the four sizes: Tiny, Mobile, Medium, and Large.
Because you chose Tiny and Medium, the first and third bars are high-
lighted. iMovie also notes where you’ve published your movie, adding a
“Shared to bar at the top of the Project Browser.
NOTE
If youre not seeing the bars, open the “Finished” version of the
project in the Project Library to show the bars.
6 Click the View button on the “Shared to bar to open iTunes and watch
your movie.
Sharing to the Whole World
The more confident you are with your movie, the more people you’ll want to
share it with, and if you want to share it with the whole world, you can post
your movie on YouTube. It’s free, and it’s the most popular video sharing web-
site in the galaxy.
Sharing to YouTube
iMovie will handle the whole process: rendering your movie, uploading it to
YouTube’s servers (provided you have a YouTube account), and even generating
an email for you to send to your friends with a link to the movie.

7 Select Medium as the “Size to publish.
Because you already created a Medium-sized movie when sharing to
iTunes, selecting that option will be much quicker than selecting the
Mobile size, which you haven’t yet created.
8 Select the “Make this movie personal” checkbox. Your movie will be avail-
able only to people on your YouTube Friends & Contacts list.
If you want to make your video available to anyone in the whole
YouTube community, deselect the “Make this movie personal” checkbox.
9 Click Next.
10 Read the YouTube terms of service (no, really, read them) and click
Publish.
iMovie uploads the movie to YouTube.
NOTE
If iMovie has trouble connecting to YouTube, which might hap-
pen if you entered your password improperly, or your Internet connec-
tion isn’t working, you will get an error message, requiring you to share
to YouTube again. However, this second time, the process will go more
quickly because the file to be uploaded will already have been created.
When it’s finished, iMovie provides you with the direct link to the video
and gives you the option to tell a friend, view the movie, or do neither of
those things right now.
