Adjusting Sharpness and Noise
Even a modern digital camera with sophisticated state-of-the-art autofo-
cus technology can produce a blurry photo if you move the camera slightly
when you snap the shutter. And photos taken in low light can show digital
noise when you pump up their exposure using the Adjust pane’s Exposure or
Shadows sliders.
You can’t completely eliminate these problems with photo editing tools, but
you can mitigate them with the Sharpness and De-noise sliders.
The Sharpness tool analyzes the color and brightness values of pixels near
each other in a photo, and when there is a substantial difference, it emphasizes
them. The result is that the edges in a photo appear sharper. The De-noise tool
analyzes the color and brightness values of neighboring pixels and reduces the
differences between them. The result is that noisy speckles in a photo appear
blurred, becoming less obvious.
