Playing a Clip Backward 279
Playing a Clip Backward
So far you’ve built a very engaging introduction to the movie and set the stage
for what’s to come. But theres something that isn’t working as well as it could.
The wide shot of the building, where the camera zooms out to show the flags,
is visually taking the viewer away from the location where the event is taking
place. It would be much more effective if it zoomed into the building, but
unfortunately that’s not what the cameraman shot at the time.
Luckily for us, iMovie allows you to play clips in reverse, which gives you
exactly what you need.
1 Position your pointer over the shot of the exterior of the building. When
the Action menu appears, click it and choose Clip Adjustments to open the
inspector.
2 Select the Reverse checkbox and click Done.
3 Play the beginning of your project again.
Now the shot is inviting us into the location. No one will ever know it
wasn’t shot this way in the first place.
Many shots will look funny when played in reverse, so apply this
effect judiciously. But in some cases, it’s the perfect tool for the job.
