60 Reviewing and Improving Your Photos
Searching with Text
You can search your photo collection for the text in any title, keyword, or descrip-
tion. For example, in Lesson 1 you used the word “mud-pack in your
description of an Event. iPhoto can find the photos in that Event instantly:
1 Click Events in the Source list so that all the Events appear in the
viewing area, and then choose Edit > Select None.
2 Click in the search field at the bottom of the iPhoto window.
3 Type the word mud.
As you type, the viewing area shows the photos that match what you’re
typing. By the time you finish typing the word, only the photos from that
Event remain in the viewing area.
NOTE
You can use the same techniques to describe an individual picture
that you used to describe the Event in Lesson 1.
Searching by Date
But you aren’t just limited to text searches. The simple-looking search field can
search for other things as well. When you click the magnifying glass icon to the
Searching by Date 61
left of the field, a pop-up menu appears from which you can select other ways
to search your photo library.
Let’s try searching for photos by date:
1 Choose Date from the search field’s pop-up menu.
The Calendar pane appears. The highlighted months are those that match
pictures in the library.
2 If the year displayed is not 2008, in the upper right of the Calendar pane,
click the left arrow until 2008 appears.
3 Click March.
The search field contains the range of dates in March, and the photos that
match those dates appear in the viewing area.
4 In the Calendar panes upper-left corner, click the small triangle.
The Calendar pane now shows the days in March 2008. The highlighted
days are those that have matching photos.
5 Click one of the highlighted days to see the photos that match that date.
