Data entities

Data entities provide a conceptual abstraction and encapsulation of the underlying table schema that represent the data concepts and functionalities. Data entities are the foundation bricks of a data management platform and serve many other purposes, such as integration, analytics, and office integration.

For more details on data entities, refer to the Chapter 8, Integration Planning and Design in this book. You can also refer to the Microsoft documentation at https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/unified-operations/dev-itpro/data-entities/data-entities.

From a data management perspective, data entities enables scenarios for configuration data provisioning and data migration, as shown in the following image:

As shown in the preceding image, activities related to setting up a company, its parameters, and select reference and master data are within the boundary of the configuration data provisioning, where a number of tools are available to select from.

The migration of open documents, master data, and supporting data could also be done using tools in LCS or using data management within Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations, Enterprise edition.

For more details on data management, refer to Chapter 3, Architecture and Deployment and Chapter 8, Integration Planning and Design.
