Asset library

An asset library is a single repository to maintain all the artifacts related to your implementation of Dynamics 365 and the project in LCS.

There are several asset types that can be used to store, use, reuse, and deploy the following artifacts:

  • Cortana intelligence application:
    • This is explained in detail in analytics topic in the later chapters
    • These are  Microsoft-provided machine learning and recommendations related components, installed in your environment via the LCS asset library repository, which bring insights derived from the Cortana intelligence suite components using machine learning right within Dynamics 365
  • Data package:
    • This is explained in detail in the data migration topic in later chapters
    • Data packages are particularly used in loading data using the LCS asset library repository into your Dynamics 365 environment
  • Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations, Enterprise edition database backup:
    • This procedure can only be used in non-production environments.
    • In this tool, a Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations, Enterprise edition database backup is uploaded as a file in the LCS asset library repository and then reimported in the same or another instance for quickly using the system
  • GER configuration:
    • This is explained in detail in the analytics topic in later chapters.
    • This involves uploading and leveraging Electronic Reporting (ER) configuration into an asset library repository in Microsoft LCS and subsequently use in your Dynamics 365 environment
  • Localized financial report:
    • Any country/region-specific localized solutions prepared by developers and ISVs can be created as a solution and added in the LCS repository, which could subsequently be used in other implementations by the partner/advisor owning it.
  • Marketing asset:
    • Here, organizations can upload their logo of different sizes in the LCS asset library repository for subsequent use in other environments
  • Model:
    • This is explained in detail in the development topic in later chapters
  • Power BI report model:
    • This is explained in detail in the analytics Chapter 10, Analytics, Business Intelligence and Reporting.
  • Software deployable package:
    • This is explained in detail in the development Chapter 9, Building Customization.
  • BPM artifact:
    • Use this repository within the LCS asset library to manage and reuse your business process libraries
  • Process data package:
    • This is explained in detail in the data migration Chapter 6Configuration and Data Management.
  • Solution package:
    • Here, one can obtain solution packages published from Microsoft to use it during your environment spun up time.

One can make a copy of an asset directly from the asset library. Also, one can ship a new version of any file in the asset library and provide release  notes when you publish an asset. This is useful when you have assets that are published with your organization users.

Organization users can now get additional versions of the same file and check what has changed with each version from the release notes, before they download a specific version.
