Projects

Projects are key artifacts for data integration and enable data flow between connecting applications.

Once you have created the connection sets, you can create Data integration project using the New Project button on the Projects tab. This will open a form wizard, as follows:

As shown, the first step on the project creation wizard is to give it a name and then select an integration template. Integration template defines data entities and field mapping to achieve specific integration scenario between two applications. Depending on the requirement, partners and customers can customize the template or create a new template to achieve specific integration scenarios. The advantage of having template-driven integration solutions is that partner or customer can use the existing templates or add an additional template to create a new integration between third-party and Dynamics Applications.

Next, you select the connection set and organizations map that you created earlier and finally, provide your consent to create the project. This screenshot shows the final project:

As shown, a project is list of one or more task and each task has mapping between a source entity and a Common Data Service entity, and then, optionally, a mapping between the Common Data Service entity and a destination entity. Mappings indicate which fields map to which other fields. Mapping can also have transformation logic, default values, and value maps. Each task is run in the order in which it appears in the project.

Integration templates provided by Microsoft have predefined entity and mapping between them. You can customize these mappings according to your integration requirement and save the changes as a new template.
