Scenarios focus

Microsoft Dynamics 365 integration will be focused on specific business scenarios that start in one application and end in another application. Microsoft has already planned out different scenarios, for which they will be delivering out of the box integration solution. One of the first scenarios that Microsoft is currently focused on delivering is the prospect to cash scenario. Prospect to cash scenario involves Dynamics 365 for Sales and Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations, Enterprise edition. The following diagram represents the data flow between Sales and Operations as part of this integration scenario:

As shown, prospect to cash scenario will synchronize the following business data entities as part of this integration:

  • Maintain accounts in Dynamics 365 for Sales and sync them to Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations, Enterprise edition as customers.
  • Maintain contacts in Dynamics 365 for Sales and sync them to Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations, Enterprise edition.
  • Maintain products in Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations, Enterprise edition and sync them to Dynamics 365 for Sales.
  • Create quotes in Dynamics 365 for Sales and sync them to Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations, Enterprise edition.
  • Generate sales orders in Dynamics 365 for Sales for the existing products and sync them to Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations, Enterprise edition.
  • Generate invoices in Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations, Enterprise edition and sync them to Dynamics 365 for Sales.

Various other scenarios with relation to Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations, Enterprise edition, are currently under planning and development, and one can expect many more in the near future:

  • Project service to project accounting: This scenario will integrate Dynamics 365 Project Services with Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations, Enterprise edition project accounting. At the moment, there are not much details around what this integration scenario will cover, but one can imagine customer project getting created in project service automation and synchronizing to Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations, Enterprise edition for project for further processing and customer billing.
  • Field service to service management: This scenario will integrate Dynamics 365 for Field Service with Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations, Enterprise edition Service management module. In this scenario you can expect, product and inventory information to be synchronized from Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations, Enterprise edition to Field services application; scheduled work order being created in field service application and synchronized in Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations, Enterprise edition. Time and material is consumed by performing job on the site, being able to synchronize it to Dynamics 365 for inventory consumption and accounting.
At the time of writing, Only integration scenarios publicly release was prospect to cash, and the others are still in the conceptualization and development phase within Microsoft. The final solution can be different from what is stated here.
