If the final results of your data are contained in an Excel worksheet but you want to display the data as a chart, you can copy the chart into your Word document, Publisher publication, or PowerPoint presentation. You can insert the chart in one of three ways: as a picture; as a linked Excel object so that changes to the chart in the Excel file will be updated in the chart in your document, publication, or presentation; or as an unlinked (or embedded) Excel object so that the chart resides in your Word, Publisher, or PowerPoint file. The last option lets you edit the chart as necessary, and you no longer need the original Excel file.
In Excel, create and format your chart. Select and copy it. In your Word, Publisher, or PowerPoint file, click where you want the chart to appear. On the Home tab, click the bottom part of the Paste button, and choose Paste Special from the drop-down menu to display the Paste Special dialog box. (In Publisher, choose Paste Special from the Edit menu.)
In the Paste Special dialog box, choose one of the following to specify how you want to insert the chart:Microsoft Office Excel Chart Object, with the Paste option selected, to incorporate all the Excel data so that you can edit the data without access to the original Excel file.
Microsoft Office Excel Chart Object, with the Paste Link option selected, if you’ll need to edit the data and if you have access to the original Excel file. If you’re linking to the Excel chart, make sure that you’ve named and saved the Excel file before you insert it.
Picture or Bitmap if you’re not going to edit the chart and its data.
Click OK. Position and format the object, and then save the document, publication, or presentation.
