Understanding Google Maps

By default, Honeycomb tablets come with the Maps app, which relies on Google Maps. ImageGoogle Maps is also available on the Web, which means you could use your tablet’s Browser app to access it; however, the Maps app provides a great interface for tablets, and it includes lots of options. Figure 11–2 shows the basics of using Google Maps on your tablet.

The Maps app lets you navigate Google Maps using handy finger gestures:

  • Use one finger to slide the map in any direction.
  • Tap with one finger to zoom in on a location.
  • Tap with two fingers to zoom away from a location.
  • Tap a labeled location like a museum, park, or restaurant to see more about the location.
  • Drag straight down or up with two fingers to tilt the perspective of the map.
  • Twist with two fingers to spin the orientation of the map. Tap the compass to make north up again.
  • Pinch or expand with two fingers to zoom in or out of the current map view.
