Adding a Google Account

Once you've set up your tablet, how do you add another Google Account? Figure 4–4 shows the steps required to add a Google Account on Honeycomb tablets.

Follow these steps to add a Google Account:

  1. Tap the Notification bar on the bottom right of the Home screen.
  2. Tap the Settings button, which will bring up the quick Settings menu.
  3. Tap the Settings button again to bring up the full Settings menu.
  4. Tap Accounts & Sync.
  5. Tap the Add account button in the upper-right corner of the screen.
  6. You'll see a screen asking what type of account you'd like to add. In this case, choose Google.
  7. From here, you can either enter your existing Google Account information or create a new account. If your desired username isn't available, Google will suggest something similar that is.

CAUTION: Keep in mind that bad guys can use Google to find obvious answers about you, so avoid questions like your city of birth or high school. You could also make up an answer to these questions that you'll remember, but strangers can't research.

Two Step Verification

One option for setting up a new Google Account is to use two-step verification. This is a process where Google sends you a verification code by text message. You'll have to do this once every 30 days. It's more secure because it requires that you have access to your phone, as well as your username and password. You can download the Google Authenticator from the Android Market here: http://goo.gl/XNup1.

It's more secure, but as with many security measures, it's also less convenient. It's your choice whether to use it.
