Shooting Video

In order to use your tablet as a video camera, you need to toggle it from Still Image to Video mode. The interface for these two modes look nearly identical, with only a few options changed (see Figure 20–6).

You can see the Galaxy Tab interface for capturing video in Figure 20–7. It’s also largely unchanged from the still camera interface.

Time Lapse vs. Timers

Here are a couple features that distinguish various tablets: some tablets have a timer to count down to when a picture is shot or a video starts being recorded, and some tablets have a Time Lapse mode that controls the interval at which video is shot.

If you set a timer, your tablet will count down for the set number of seconds before it starts recording. This lets you set the camera and run into position before it starts.

If you set a time-lapse interval, as shown on the right, the video will shoot one frame for each specified interval.

Normal video resolution is 30 frames per second for most tablet cameras. That means the one-second interval will shoot video that will play back 30 times faster than real-time; similarly, a 10-second interval will play back 300 times as fast.
