Tower Defense

One popular genre for computer games is the tower defense game. This is a type of strategy game—usually solitaire—where the player tries to install static weapons to prevent an enemy from breaching his or her defenses. Each destroyed enemy is worth points that can be used to purchase more defenses or upgrade existing installations.

One example of the genre that works well on tablets is shown to the left. This is Lupis Labs’ Robo Defense. It’s a fairly a standard tower defense with robots, tanks, helicopters, and jets trying to breach your defenses. One cool aspect of this game is that it is optimized for a variety of screen sizes. You can try the free version, which has one map and eleven levels. If you find the strategy to be strangely addictive, the paid version is only US $2.99 and allows you to choose more maps. US $2.99 is also a typical price for tower defense games.

Other tower defense games include the following:

  • Nexus Defense HD: Defend against science fiction attackers.
  • ZDefense HD: Defend along a hexagonal grid using arcade-style graphics.
  • Grave Defense HD: Defend against a horde of zombies and monsters.
