Steps for Troubleshooting

If your tablet starts misbehaving in a really odd way—perhaps the sound no longer plays through headphones, apps repeatedly crash, or the screen keeps freezing—the first thing you should try is restarting it. Sometimes a good reboot is all your tablet needs to start working as well as possible. Power it all the way down, rather than just turning the screen on and off. The second step is a soft reset. As a last resort, you may consider a factory reset.

Soft Resets

If your tablet refuses to power down or stops responding to your touch, then you’ll need to perform a soft reset. On a phone, you’d just yank the batteries; however, tablets are generally made with non-removable batteries. Reset maneuvers depend on the tablet. On many models, it may be as simple as holding down the Power button until it powers off. On the Xoom, you need to hold the Power and Volume Up buttons at the same time. Refer to your user manual to find the specific procedure for your device.
