A Typical Activation Sequence

Not all tablets will have the same activation sequence, but the sequence will usually be similar. Here's how a Xoom with a Verizon Wireless data plan activates:

1. Choose a Language: The default is English.
2. Activate Verizon Wireless: Activate your tablet on Verizon. Wi-Fi-only customers will be prompted to enter information about their Wi-Fi access point instead.
3. Use Google Location Service: Do you want Google to detect your location for things like Google Maps directions and search results? The default is yes.
4. Sign in with Your Google Account: If you have a Gmail or another Google account, enter it here.
5. Restore and Back up Your Data: If you've entered a Google Account in the previous screen, you can choose to have your data restored and backed up. If you own another Android device, it will even start downloading compatible apps you use on other devices.
